a recommendation . . .

"when a passenger of the foot heave in sight, tootle the horn. trumpet at him melodiously at first, but if he still obstacles your passage, then tootle him with vigor."

this sign can be found in tokyo as a warning to motorists.

i can't tell you how many times i have obstacled a passage being a passenger of the foot, heaving in sight - but i have yet to be trumpeted at melodiously, and tootled at with vigor. our english language really can be quite entertaining as it is used EVERYWHERE around the world!

i am diving in to the book The Mother Tongue: English and How It Got That Way. it's pretty entertaining, although i wonder how true everything is! it was pretty much the source of SO much laughter tonight!!

i love our language. i would totally recommend this book.

tootling with vigor,

rachel
